When it comes to controlling mosquito populations then dragonflies are really important. Becuase dragonflies eat both mosquitoes and their larvae. So now try to get those dragonflies near your home!

To attract dragonflies, you will need trees, shrubs and other types of plants. When dragonflies are young, then they look somewhere to hide. They also like to prey on pollinators such as butterflies, beetles, wasps, moths and other tiny insects. And you will have to plant blooming plants. Plants near and within ponds are beneficial, so water them to grow. # attract dragonflies

1. Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hitra)

This flower attracts pollinators as well as butterflies. And these wildflowes which are thriving for couple of years in warm areas. They die off in winter. It grows in every type of soil. And like warm weather, full sunlight and regular watering.

Swamp milkweed close relative to common milkweed. This plant have white and pink flowers which grows every year. It also attracts dragonfly prey. And grows well in moist and sunny areas. These perennial plant.


3. Joe-Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum)

Joe-Pye weeds have pink-purple flowers. And it grows in the mid summar and then fall. It attracts prey. It can grow 3-12 feet high. It like full/partial sunlight and grows in moist woods and meadows. Flowers of this plants have vanilla fragrance that gets more intense when crushed.

4. Meadow sage (Salvia marcus)

This plant grows well in partial shade but it likes full sun light. And its perennial plant and grows gorgeous purple flowers. Grows on spots which offer morning sun and afternoon shade. When it full grows then plant not need too much water. And it can thrive well in drought but it cause problem.

5. White yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

It is a wildflower which has big clusters with 20-25 flowers. It attracts parasitic wasps and butterflies. It also disease resistant. The white yarrow like full-sun. # attract dragonflies 


6.Pond plants

Ponds are best for dragonflies because they spend at least two months underwater. And after that, they also return to waters over and over again.

You also need to get some rocks and then place them around the ponds. Because larvae of the insect need rocks to hide and grow underwater.

7. Arrowhead (Sagittaria latifolia)

They also known as duck-potato. Arrowhead are aquatic perennial and these grows above the level of water. The adult files lay eggs on the plant. In spring, push the tuber of plant into the underwater soil. If submerged leaves, don’t worry about it and weigh it down.

Wild celery provide an excellent habitat for dragonflies. And it to the surface of water and then dragonflies adult deposit eggs on it. Plant at the spots where it get at least 18 inches of water all the time. #Attract dragonflies.

9. Water horsetail (Equisetum fluviatile)

10. Cattail (Typha latifolia)

You can grow cattail from moist soil in swampy areas. It is also called bull rushes. Don’t plant in shady spots, and grow them from rhizomes.

11. Water lily

This plant has perfect spot for dragonflies to laying eggs. Grow water lilies from tubers under the surface of water in pots. To keep water lilies submerged then add rocks. # attract dragonflies
